'Quantum Science and Technology'
The elementary unit of quantum information, the "qubit", is represented by a two-level quantum system. The preparation, coherent evolution and read-out of quantum states of an interacting ensemble of qubits form the basis of a quantum information processor, which has the potential to solve problems which are not accessible for a classical computer from a principal point of view. This requires an unprecedented and presently unattained level of control over coherent dynamics of individual quantum systems. Based on the innovation initiative Quantum Systems for Information Technology at ETH Zurich founded in 2004 the poly project Quantum Systems and Technology encourages innovative experimental and theoretical approaches from a diverse range of scientific disciplines.
