International Conference on

Centro Stefano Franscini,

The
laws of quantum mechanics take command when penetrating into the world
of atoms and electrons. The concepts of superposition of states and
entanglement, which are pertinent to the quantum world, provide us with
new resources that can be exploited in information science. To make
effective use of these resources, physicists need to learn how to
control and manipulate individual quantum degrees of freedom, e.g., in
the form of electron-pairs on a superconducting island, an atom-photon
pair in a cavity, or an electron spin in a quantum dot. Experts from
various fields, e.g. mesoscopic physics, quantum optics, and
information theory, will report about their latest results on this
exciting topic.
